5 Important Cannabis Organizations to Know About

We have many people to thank for our growing rights to enjoy cannabis in the United States. Groups work tirelessly lobbying for legalization and increased access to this lifesaving plant. Also to protect those involved in its cultivation and distribution. If you’re looking to donate time and/or money, here are five groups looking for help.

5 important cannabis organizations

NORML: According to their mission statement, “NORML’s mission is to move public opinion sufficiently to legalize the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and to serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high quality marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable.”

NORML is highly involved in government legislation and cannabis prosecution. They lobby for better cannabis laws and make expert witnesses available for congressional testimony and for clients with cannabis-related criminal charges. They’re also an established resource for the media.

Marijuana Policy Project: Completely reliant on donations, this organization lobbies for cannabis reform and decriminalization. You can visit their website for a list of accomplishments and laws they’ve helped enact. They work at both the national and state levels.

Americans for Safe Access: The mission of Americans for Safe Access (ASA) is to ensure safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research. This group focuses on the medical aspect of cannabis legalization. They work to make sure patients are informed about cannabis as a treatment option, have access to safe, pesticide-free cannabis, and ensure medical cannabis is covered by insurance.

Marijuana Majority: This group works to change public opinion about cannabis reform and seeks to show that pro-legalization is a mainstream opinion, not the minority. They provide resources for individuals to contact celebrities, opinion leaders and government officials to encourage them to vocalize support on this important issue.

Veterans Cannabis Group: Veterans Cannabis Group is an advocacy group of Veterans for Veterans who use medical cannabis. They provide education, safe access, information on VA resources and benefits, and an opportunity for veterans to work with other veterans within the cannabis industry. This group is important as they address the tremendous problem of Veteran suicide and see cannabis as way to treat the symptoms that drives people to take their own lives.
