5 Ways to Recover If You Get Too High
I know, I know. Why would anyone want to get rid of an awesome cannabis buzz? But sometimes situations arise where being high isn’t a good thing. Maybe you’ve overindulged and are feeling too high. Maybe you forgot about an important engagement or you have a last-minute job interview…whatever the reason, you can take steps to recover.
Whatever you do, don’t panic! Being too high may be uncomfortable but it is not life-threatening. The most important thing to remember is that this is only temporary. The negative feelings will subside, and you’ll return to normal within one to several hours. There’s nothing besides perhaps a shot of adrenaline (do not try this at home) that will instantly rid you of feeling too high, but there are a few things you can do to speed up the process.
Here’s our top 5 tips for coming down when you’re too high:
Take CBD: CBD and THC are both cannabinoids that appear on opposite sides of a spectrum. A product rich in THC will naturally have very little or no CBD and vice-versa. CBD doesn’t produce the psychoactive, mental effects that THC does, so many people use it for health and wellness when they want to keep a clear head. By adding more CBD to your system, you can also counteract the effects of THC. A few drops of CBD oil or tincture taken sublingually (under the tongue) is the fastest way to come back down when you’ve gotten too high.
Hydrate: Flushing your system with water is a great way to move things along when it comes to overindulgence. If you can’t stand to drink plain or carbonated water, try juice instead (but be aware of the high sugar content). Citrus juice is a good bet as Vitamin C helps counteract THC. Don’t drink more than 1 liter of water per hour or you could be risking your health!
Exercise: Sometimes just getting out for a brisk walk can sober you up, but if that doesn’t work, try an actual workout. Exercise will help get your blood flowing, flush your system and sharpen your mind. If leaving the house isn’t an option, try a dance or exercise video on a streaming service. Do not use weight sets or other equipment that could cause you injury!
Cool shower: Going for a swim or hopping in a cool or cold shower is a quick way to regain focus and shake off the effects of a too potent edible or cannabis strain. The cold water will awaken the senses and distract you from your high. Colder temperatures in general will keep you more alert, so open a window and lower your thermostat.
Take some ibuprofen: Ibuprofen seems to counteract the effects of THC. Taking two tablets should show results in about 30-minutes to an hour.
