St. Patrick’s Day: 6 Reasons to Skip the Green Beer and Go for Green Bud Instead
Like Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick’s Day completely ignores the original meaning of the holiday and instead provides Irish and non-Irish alike a chance to get sloshed, listen to bagpipe music and generally make merry. It’s a day of boozy shenanigans, but it doesn’t come without a price. Best case scenario, a hangover. Worst case, a jail cell or morgue. Let’s look at some cold, hard facts:
Drunk-driving crashes more than double over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that one individual dies every 51 minutes due to drunk driving on St. Patrick’s Day.
Between the years 2006 to 2010, approximately 700 people died on the road on this holiday. DUI testing showed that people involved in accidents had a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit. Most fatal crashes occurred during the post-party period of midnight to 3 a.m. Pedestrians are also at risk of drunk driving accidents.
So, this year skip the crowded bars and streets filled with inebriated pedestrians and drivers, and celebrate the Irish with some sticky, icky, green bud and your best buds.
Here’s 6 reasons why green bud is better than green beer:
#1 Cannabis is safer than alcohol.
It’s an indisputable fact. Unlike alcohol, there is zero risk of fatal overdose. A new medical journal study suggests that worldwide, for ages 15-49, alcohol was a leading risk factor in death in 2016.
#2 There are fewer regrets.
No blackout periods wondering if you made a fool of yourself. No drunken quarrels. No dizzying hangovers or mornings spent with your head in the toilet bowl.
#3 It’s cheaper.
How much do you spend on a typical night at the bar? For the same amount, you can get some top quality, craft cannabis that will get you and your friends high all night long without liver damage!
#4 It’s more relaxing.
Sure, a glass or two of wine can be relaxing, but even this small amount of alcohol can disturb your sleep. Cannabis offers full-body mental and physical relaxation combined with medicinal anti-inflammatory properties that erase everyday aches and pains. Plus, cannabis can help you fall asleep fast and sleep better throughout the night.
#5 Cannabis can help beat cancer while alcohol causes it.
The US Department of Health lists alcohol as a known human carcinogen. Research highlighted by the National Cancer Institute suggests that the more frequently you drink, the higher your risk of developing cancer. Meanwhile, new medical studies are showing that cannabis can inhibit and even stop growth of tumors in some types of cancers.
#6 It has fewer calories and can possibly even help with weight loss.
A study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine found that people who drank heavily had a higher risk of becoming overweight or obese. Plus, alcohol itself is caloric: A can of beer has roughly 150 calories, and a glass of wine has about 120. A bowl of cannabis has zero. No artificial sweeteners, no lab-created fillers; just a fine, organic plant that grows naturally in the ground all around the globe. Studies even suggest that despite the munchies, cannabis smokers have a slightly lower risk of obesity!
If you are going out drinking on St. Pat’s, please be sure to use a designated driver and download the SaferRide app from the NHTSA which allows you to call a designated friend or a cab to your location. Please do not send drunk female friends home alone in cabs or rideshares. Stay safe out there!
